How to choose porcelain tiles in the UAE
Porcelain is denser and less porous than ceramic, which is why it handles UAE floor traffic, heat and outdoor terraces better. Start with where the tile goes. For living areas and majlis, 60x120 cm large-format tiles reduce grout lines and read as more premium; for bathrooms and kitchens, 60x60 cm is easier to cut around fittings. Outdoors and around pools, only use a matt or anti-slip (R10/R11) surface — polished porcelain in direct UAE sun becomes both hot and slippery when wet. Finish drives both look and maintenance: polished shows dust and footprints fastest, matt hides them, and lappato sits in between. Budget the adhesive properly too: large-format tiles need a C2-class cement adhesive, and using a cheap C1 adhesive under 60x120 tiles is the single most common cause of hollow, drumming tiles a year later.
